Fall 2020/Spring 2021 Travel Team Information (IMPORTANT PLEASE READ)

As Covid-19 continues to get in the way of our normal routines, one of the biggest frustrations is the uncertainty we all have regarding any future plans. To make sure we would be ready, we got to work early and began preparation for the fall season in earnest back in April. This allowed us to provide ample time for families to register and we were able to secure the facilities necessary.

With the current climate, we adjusted our usual thinking regarding team formation for the upcoming season. Instead of holding evaluation sessions, for our returning players, we will be using data collected from our trainers, and our Director of Coaching.  For players new to the club, we will be collecting information, and may ask for a virtual tryout.

With this as our blueprint, we are inviting all interested players to register for GU just in their age group and not to a specific team. If a team name is listed, please select UNASSIGNED. Here is what you need to know:

  • You interested players will be registering just for the age group (Boys U10, Girls U8, etc.)
  • If a team name is available, select UNASSIGNED
  • We will once again be offering a payment plan. $200 will be due at registration and then 5 payments of $150 due 9/1, 10/1, 11/1, 2/1, and 3/1. If you register and decide not to play prior to the start of the season, for any reason, we will fully refund any fees paid. No questions asked. You just need to notify us prior to September 1, 2020.
  • We will be forming teams using data from our trainers for existing players. For new families, we may ask for information regarding soccer experience and might request a virtual tryout.
  • Our GOAL as always is to form teams by grouping kids with other players  of similar skill level to ensure the best learning experience.

For new families looking to join GU, here are some of the highlights:

  • All travel teams are assigned a professional trainer. That trainer runs all practices and coaches the kids on game days. We do not allow parent coaching. Parents have no input when it comes to rosters, field positions, playing time, etc.
  • GU handles all of the administration, including trainer fees, fields, schedules, etc. Families are not required to be responsible for or contribute to a team fund to pay for expenses throughout the year
  • All age groups pay the same price and get the same benefits.  2-90 minute practices a week (even when we lose daylight in the fall) and games against other clubs on Sundays
  • Kids born in 2013/2014 are on travel teams similar to our older players. The same amount of practices and games against other clubs on Sundays
  • Our teams compete in the Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL) travel program.

As a community-based soccer club, through all this - we have learned that we are so much more than just soccer.  We are a community. We are a family. We are teaching the kids life lessons through this great game. The meaning of being on a team has changed, and we must utilize our soccer club, to keep our kids engaged and part of the team together. Thank you for considering Greenburgh United.
