Trainers /Coaches & Team Managers

Professional Coaching Structure

All Greenburgh United programs are run by USSF and UEFA-certified professional coaches—either from our club or through our partnership with the New York Red Bulls. There are no parent coaches or trainers at any level.

Our coaches are fully responsible for player development, training sessions, game management, and following the club curriculum. Parents are not involved in team makeup, training plans, or decisions around playing time.

Coach Responsibilities

At Greenburgh United, “coach” and “trainer” mean the same thing—all our coaches are licensed professionals. They are present at all team practices and games, and their responsibilities include:

  • Teaching the Greenburgh United curriculum

  • Managing all on-field activities—tactics, substitutions, and player direction

  • Bringing and organizing all equipment

  • Acting as the only person permitted to communicate with referees (no parent or player should approach or comment to the referee)

Coaches are not responsible for tracking attendance or handling weekly communications with families.

Team Manager

Each Greenburgh United travel team has a designated team manager. This is a volunteer role—usually filled by a parent—and plays an important part in keeping things organized and running smoothly. Managers work closely with the team’s coach/trainer and help support a positive experience for all players and families.

Manager Responsibilities Include:

  • Team communication (in coordination with the coach/trainer)

  • Sharing practice and game schedules

  • Tracking attendance

  • Managing ID cards and lineup sheets for each match

  • Registering the team for tournaments

  • Helping set expectations for parent behavior

  • Supporting a positive and unified team culture

Background Checks

All team managers are required to complete a US Club Soccer background check and must be certified in both SafeSport and Sideline Sports training. These certifications are valid for two years.

For more details on how to complete these requirements, visit usclubsoccer.org. If you have any questions about eligibility or the process, please reach out to our club registrar.
